Starting point: - Pull up next to the parking bay as shown in the diagram and line up with the 1st reference as shown in the Picture i.e. line up so that you are looking directly into the middle of the bay.

Observations: - Look right shoulder blind spot, right mirror, then in front. If it is safe, then move the car very slowly. Note: You must not continue if other road users are going to be passing you. If they wait then you must continue.

Immediately when the car starts to move, steer full lock right. (Shown in the next diagram 2).

Observations: - While steering full lock right look again in the right mirror and right shoulder blind spot then in front. If it is safe, then continue to the 2nd reference as shown in the next diagram. Note: You must not continue if other road users are going to be passing you. If they wait then you must continue.

2nd Reference: - When you reach this reference the view in your left door mirror should be similar to that in the picture i.e. the tip of the line should be approximately half way across in the mirror. When you reach this reference select reverse gear.

Observations: - Look right shoulder blind spot, right mirror, then out the back window. If it is safe, then move the car very slowly. Note: You must not continue if other road users are going to be passing you. If they wait then you must continue.

Immediately when the car starts to move, steer full lock left.

Observations: - Look around again for other road users. If it is safe, then continue into the bay looking mainly out the back window but looking around occasionally for other road users and looking in your door mirrors to make sure you are entering the bay between the bay lines. Note: You must not continue if other road users are going to be passing you. If they wait then you must continue.

To end up in between the lines as shown in the diagram you might need to adjust your steering while reversing into the bay. Your instructor will assist you in understanding these adjustments.
Note: If required, after you start reversing you are allowed to move forward to correct your car.
When driving forward into a bay, if the bay is on your right then keep your car to the left of the road, and if the bay is on your left then position your car to the right of the road. This positioning makes it easier to drive into the bay.

Position your car so that you are looking directly into the middle of the bay before the one you will drive into. Look for other road users and if it is safe steer full lock towards the bay as soon as your car begins to move.
